Judie Balacke is a native Richmonder and has been involved in all types of music since childhood when she joined her church choir. Playing piano and singing in a quartet for churches and nursing homes filled up much of her spare time in those earlier years. With music such a major part in her life, it was only natural when she started helping out at AM 950 WXGI in 1997 with gospel programming. Eventually she co-hosted a Sunday evening gospel music program and since September of 2001 has been co-host of the quite popular "Sunday Morning Gospel with Amy and Judie". The Sunday morning program is not complete without mentioning "The Donut Man" who faithfully keeps the ladies supplied with fresh coffee and doughnuts throughout their four-hour broadcast. He's a personality himself!

For the last several years, Judie has taken WXGI shut-in listeners every June to the annual "Gospel Chickenhouse All-Day Sing" in Montpelier, VA. This has been quite a hit with the listeners and the van is always overflowing.

Judie will quickly tell you that her association with WXGI is truly a ministry sent from God and that she dearly loves each and every listener. Some nine years ago, Judie developed a vocal dysfunction that took away her singing voice and sometimes affects her speaking voice. However, when any difficulty in speaking arises while on the air, her co-host simply fills in the rest of the sentence for her.

Judie is active in her life-long church and is a member of their handbell choir. She is married and works full time. You'll find her at many of the concerts around town getting to know and meet new station listeners.

Well, I meet Judie about 6 years ago at a concert (music event) and she later asked me if Preston & I would like to come and sing on the radio for Easter 2004. So, we would talk from time to time and then when we released our CD "Where I'm bound" she let us come out to the station. Then once again Easter 2005, we played at the station. A couple of times Judie would ask me to fill in as her CO-Host...and of course I would, what fun!

So, then late fall 2005 she asked if I would like to CO-Host on a weekly basis. You know my answer....this radio ministry is just a wonderful outreach. We get over 100 calls each Sunday from folks all over central Virginia that are either on there way to church or work, folks in the hospital, nursing homes, family and friends that tell us what a blessing the music is!

God has His hand in everything we do, lives are being touched through this ministry. It is my pleasure to be of some assistance to Judie each Sunday morning! She is a wonderful person to work with and quite an inspiration.

Thanks for listening! God Bless You!

The Donut Man is a regular on Sunday Morning Gospel even if he's never heard over the airwaves. Without fail, he can be found each week back in the kitchen preparing breakfast and coffee for those of us that bring you Sunday Morning Gospel. Birthday cakes? Ah yes, he bakes them in a crockpot and brings them in the studio all decorated and ready to celebrate our listener's birthdays every Sunday morning.

Joe Ann Profitt comes from Manakin-Sabot each week to help us answer the phones. She knows each listener by voice and they look forward to chatting with her. If she's away one week, they ask "where's Joe Ann"? Each Saturday night you can find her up at the Gospel Chickenhouse in Montpelier enjoying all their gospel music.
