Favorite Childhood Memory: My Birthdays! All of my childhood birthdays were a blast! Big celebrations with cakes, balloons, friends, family and gifts. When I turned 20 my mom came to my work place and decorated my car with balloons and streamers. She also posted birthday signs throughout Highland Springs on Nine Mile Rd.
Hobbies: singing & music of course, shopping, spending time with family, my nieces and nephews!
Thankful for: I am most thankful for God and being raised in a Christian home. I am thankful my parents sent me to church and a Christian school. I am thankful for my husband Preston and our daughter Audrey. I cherish moments we have together playing music and enjoying the small things in life! Bio: Craig became interested in the Dobra after hearing Bashful Brother Oswald, and started playing in the Summer of 1950. Hejoined Mel Hughes and the Bent Mountain Boys in 1955 and played with Chief Powhatan from 1960 to 1984 while playing with Jeff Simmons and for over 20 years with Johnny Ladd and the Blue Grass Stompers.. He also played with Carl and Pearl Butler, Mac Wiseman, Grandpa Jones and Ramona, Cousin Minnie Pearl, Dewey Ritter, and numerous guests on both the Old and New Dominion Bam Dances and at numerous Blue Grass festivals in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. He performed on the three local television stations for several years, on radio and in TV commercials. He performed at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop over WSM and on WWV A in Wheeling, West Va. He was studio musician for Salem Records. Craig has appeared on over 500 records, including CDs, albums, and tapes with various artists, including Red Allen, Chief Powhatan, Johnny Ladd, and Hugh Dunn. While recording an album named BeatIe Country (which was popular world wide) with the Charles River Valley Boys, Craig was offered the opportunity to remain in Nashville as a studio musician for Columbia Records. Earlier, he was offered a job performing with Flatt and Scruggs. He declined both offers. He won the first Dobro contest sponsored by VFMA, and lately was featured in an article in Blue Grass Unlimited titled Blue Grass Pioneer.
Craig is presently working for the Virginia Department of Transportation and playing and recording Blue Grass Gospel music with his favorite band, Amy Ladd and Friends.
